Almost all castles have secret passage ways to escape and dungeons are below the surface of the castle as well, however there are only three castles in the World who have underground caverns. One kingdom, called Chalon, is located below the Great Alps in France. It's cavern is large and circular with a high roof. Small homes have been carved into the walls and is used by dwarfs and other creatures who live underground. The second is in China known as Shijigonzu. It is almost a tunnel under it's castle but is very wide. Dragons are the only ones who use it, especially those who were born in China. Female dragons (called FengHuan in China) usually nest there and hatch their eggs there. Old dragons make a nest their permanant home until the pass away. The last kingdom is in Germany in Girsheinberg. This cavern is unlike the other two for it is called 'The Cave of Ashes' or 'De Hyhle Asche (Esche). It is used for classification and is not a sanctuary. Mythical creatures of all kind are cremated, their ashes placed in a beautifully designed box, and set on shelves catagorized by species, year they died, then alphebetically if possible. The idea started in 1603 and has been carried on ever since. Only those who consent to being cremated are placed there.
